Apparently the maximum fine for this offence is £2500? Seems pretty pathetic if you ask me, but I suppose it has to apply to normal people as well as millionaire footballers.

Yeah, the maximum fine does appear to be a ridiculous amount for a millionaire footballer. However assuming Terry is found guilty, his England career will probably be over and I'm sure the FA will also ban him for a number of matches so he won't get off lightly.

Knowing the FA they'll probably send lawyers to appeal against any conviction. They have England's interests at heart after all.

I understand where you're coming from and I think without the Suarez issue, that's probably what they would have done but I doubt it now.

Why does Terry have to face court and is Suarez punished by the FA?

A member of the public complained to the Police after viewing the video of the alleged offence.

Because someone made an official complaint to the police about Terry. Evra chose to go to the FA rather than make a police complaint.

Chelsea's statement:

"Chelsea Football Club today received notification that the Crown Prosecution Service has charged John Terry with a racially aggravated public order offence.

John has made it clear he denies the charge and is determined to do all he can to prove his innocence.

Chelsea FC has always been fully supportive of John in this matter and will continue to be so.
The club finds all forms of discrimination abhorrent and we are proud of the work we undertake campaigning on this important issue.

Chelsea will not be commenting further on the subject while the legal process runs its course."

well played, Chelsea.

Let's just be honest, after Liverpool's dumbass statement earlier everything sounds better.

I'm so confused, I love JT and all but why is he only getting a police charge?
If the police are doing something about it, surely the FA would be too?

this will come back to bite us in the ass anyway, whateves. I wonder if he was found guilty what
the FA would do. 8 games?

I might be wrong but I think the FA have to wait until the police charge has been dealt with before they can start their own investigation.

but then why did they go ahead with Suarez? I'm so confused, they have taken two completely separate paths on the same issue. idk
wouldnt Suarez be charged by the police too?

Nah there's been no criminal charge against Suarez, Evra seems to have been the only one who heard what he said and it looks like he chose not to make a complaint to the police. Members of the public complained to the police about Terry after seeing the video of what he said.
