While I agree with what you're saying and totally disagree with Whelan's comments, I'm not really comfortable with the way in which one barmy chairman's comments are reflecting upon an entire football club (as a Fulham fan with a particularly barmy chairman, this is pressing...)

I found Wigan to be one of the warmest and friendliest football grounds I've ever been to. Lots of respect for the team. Lots of EPL clubs have weird chairmen and it doesn't make them basic....... It's just - Why the Wigan hate?

like i said to mardia above, i wasn't sure about posting this, since it's basically the same old bullshit being spouted by the same old assholes wherever you look. i thought it was important, though, if only for the fact that people in power should always have their bullshit questioned -- and also because it's good to recognize that there's an ongoing discourse on the issue of race in football. hopefully, like the whole sian massey disaster last year, it will lead to at least a few people dragging themselves into this century.
