Richard Leakey predicts skepticism over evolution will soon be history.

Not that the avowed atheist has any doubts himself.

Sometime in the next 15 to 30 years, scientific discoveries will have accelerated to the point that "even the skeptics can accept it," the Kenyan-born paleoanthropologist said.

I will never be able to understand that. Climate change and preservation of the environment has always been taught in schools here in Saudi Arabia as fact. We have tips on preserving water and our books discuss finding alternatives to materials that harm the environment, greenhouse gases, what causes instinction of different species and all sorts of things.

Climate change's never had a political aspect to it, nor is it treated as anything controversial, as far as I can see.

I just can't wrap my mind around it.

Same here.

I suppose the reason is that in the US most people value the "Freedom of Speech(tm)" more than anything else and it backfired horribly so that certain assholes think it means "I can say what I want and I never have to rethink my position because there is no science and it's all opinions anyway!!11" Sadly there are plenty of those assholes in the US. It's a big country after all...
