This is good news, but the problem is that the United States doesn't really listen to anyone because they are the "world police." But if the other states agree, they could be forced to agree to such a measure.
Just because anti-choicers have done bad things and hurt people is not a good argument for not instituting protection of women's human rights. Being angry and hurt is not a justification for keeping something that continues to harm women. Especially since sterilising people is also a violation of reproductive rights, which is in line with the idea that women have the right to reproductive care and to make their own decisions about it.
Every country that bans or restricts abortion also has a high maternal and child death rate. In short women's rights extend beyond just access to safe abortions when needed. The right to receive appropriate medical care also extends to care during wanted pregnancies and giving birth.
I think your cultural relativism is misplaced here. Women in all countries should have access to abortion. I don't see what the issue of forced sterilisations has to do with this, since that is obviously imposed by the government on the people.
Finally some good news. The UNs word has less weight than a popcorn tub on international politics, but the fact they're acknowledging the issue is awesome already, and let's hope for the best here. It'd be awesome if for once, nations listened to this.
This is a step in the right direction. It needs to be stated over and over that abortion and contraception should be safe, legal, and accessible to all women as a human right. Period. Religion should have nothing to do with the matter.
