This is gross, but it's good to see a public figure prosecuted I guess.

It feels so weird to hear someone say that a rapist being convicted of rape is a sad day for Israel. I mean, yes, it is sad that those women were raped, but the conviction itself is a good thing. It feels too much like saying the conviction is sad because it reflects poorly on Israel as opposed to saying it is sad because of what those women had to go through. It's late. Am I making sense?

Yes. That happens a lot in cases of violence against women, sexual or otherwise.

That's basically what I was thinking. The days he committed his crimes and people looked the other way or covered for him, those were sad days for Israel. This is a good day.

This. It also reminds me of people saying they were sad about the Egypt revolution, when the oppression in the proceeding years is IMO the "sad" part. It's like people fail to differentiate between the circumstances leading to an uprising/court case and the uprising/court case itself. Those circumstances are often horrible but the fact that people are trying to change/changing things is glorious IMO. Saying "It's sad." without qualifying what exactly is so sad about it just calls to mind the idea that trying to change the way things are will only bring misery.
