How Gay Soldiers Serve Openly Around The World

The Pentagon on Nov. 30 released its long-awaited study on "don't ask, don't tell," which showed little risk in allowing gay men and women to serve openly in the military. Defense Secretary Robert Gates says repealing the policy would not produce the "wrenching, dramatic change that many have feared and predicted."

And from what I can tell, it seems to be mostly civilians who are worried about gay and straight service members showering together, while the majority of the straight service members in question don't really seem to care.

Speaking as a Canadian, my country is nowhere near perfect on ANY equality front. That being said, for the most part, as a country, I can actually see forward movement in these issues. Which is why it confuses me SO much that America, as a country, just seems to be taking leaps backwards. I don't understand.
