She says the Kuwaiti government has been discussing reforming kafala, the sponsorship system that gives employers full control over workers including the length of their stay in the country.

Wtf is this? How could they not have anticipated that giving employers full control over migrant domestic workers would be a breeding ground for exploitation and abuse, especially when there are virtually no consequences for the employers who take advantage of these workers?

So far all the "employers" in this story are women, right? Oh my god, I don't even want to think happens when there is a male employer and a woman employee.

Sexual molestation, degradation and battery isn't uncommon for even female employers.

urgh urgh took you long enough BBC

this has been a huge problem for decades. SL local politicians earn a lot of money in commissions through domestic workers in the middle east so I unfortunately don't see anything getting better.
