News anchors and a lot of actors are trained to have the midwestern "non-accent" so that the audience can understand what they're saying.

I knew it was for some reason, cause when I was living in Minnesota they had the same accent as the newscasters down here in SoFlo. Its just so weird when everyone besides the anchors have an accent.

Especially Minnesota... donchaknow.

actually the accent isn't so much "midwestern" as "great lakes/upstate new york" that they are trained to have. from living all over, i've noticed the one most likely to have a regional accent is the weatherman.
