The on screen comedic chemistry between Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly is undeniable, but Poptimal learns that this translates off camera as well in a recent interview with the two Warehouse 13 actors on the upcoming season.
Warehouse 13 is a Syfy Channel original series centering on a mysterious U.S. government warehouse that houses unique supernatural artifacts from around the world. The warehouse is in its thirteenth incarnation having been originally designed by Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, and MC Escher in 1914.
The show’s main two protagonists are Secret Service agents Peter ‘Pete’ Lattimer (McClintock) and Myka Bering (Kelly). Pete and Myka are opposites where he is very intuitive with a penchant for rule bending (with an extra sense for detecting danger), she is very detail oriented and by the book. The two agents are assigned to Warehouse 13 to retrieve missing artifacts and to investigate and collect new ones.
The two actors were incredibly excited about the upcoming season and explained that fans will be in for a treat with bigger, better, faster and funnier storylines. McClintock also noted that they have a bigger production budget as well as the network giving writers greater creative freedom to write comedy in the show.
Here’s a portion of Poptimal’s interview with McClintock and Kelly:
Poptimal: What can we expect from season two? Any tidbits you guys can give away?
Joanne Kelly: It’s bigger, it’s better…
Eddie McClintock: It’s funnier…
Kelly & McClintock: It’s faster!
McClintock: Watch it!
Kelly: I think last year we really found the show and this year we dived right in to the deep end, and I think it’s tighter, uhm it’s bigger, better…
McClintock: I think truly last year toward the end we really found our rhythm, found out and figured out what the show was. For as great a job as the writers did last year, I think the show, I think they’ll admit that the show was a little spotty. I mean we were still figuring out what the show was gonna be. This year we didn’t have that problem, we hit the ground running. You know the characters are more fleshed out, the network has trusted the writers now to let them write the comedy a little more because we’ve shown that we can pull it off. They’ve also put their money where their mouth is, the production value of the show seems to have increased. The stories are just better and the mythology of the warehouse has become more fun and more detailed. So I think everybody will just wanna absorb the show. They’ll wanna absorb the show because there’s so much of it. It’s so full.
Poptimal: You guys have great chemistry on the show; will we see more of Pete and Myka’s relationship grow in season two?
Kelly: No.
McClintock: She sleeps with the fishes!
Kelly: No, yeah I think you’ll really get to see these two people really get to know one another and to start to open up and trust each other. We see the relationship deepening. I think for everyone in the warehouse for that whole warehouse family, you know Leena and Claudia, and Artie as well as Pete and Myka. We see those relationships grow and continue to develop.
McClintock: The show yes it’s about a warehouse and ultimately the star of the show is the warehouse…
Kelly: Is there a bigger star than Eddie McClintock? [laughs] I don’t know if that’s possible!
McClintock: But you know at the core of the show, it’s a show about family for family. It’s about relationships, our relationships to one another, our relationships to the artifacts…
Kelly: Isn’t it a relationship WITH the artifacts? Isn’t that grammatically…
McClintock: Yea, yea okay teacher teacher! Spankin’ with the ruler, hey hey hey!
Poptimal: What do you guys enjoy most about working on Warehouse 13?
Kelly: Lunch…no, my guns. The ray guns, the tesla! My gun is probably my favorite thing on the show. Running around with my gun and running. Running with the guns! [laughs]
McClintock: She loves man who runs with guns…
Kelly: No, I love no man who run with guns, just me…
McClintock: That’s actually my Indian name, man who runs with gun.
Kelly: You mean Native American name.
McClintock: That’s right. Don’t wanna be P.I. (politically incorrect)
Kelly: [laughs]
McClintock: Favorite part for me is just everything. I love it. I love being there, I love everything about it.
Kelly: He loves it even more than Facebook and Twitter.
McClintock: Easy. But it’s like I’ve worked in pine tree fields in Magnolia, Ohio, in the dead of summer. I had to prune, they were Christmas trees…
Kelly: I had to scan samples of fish!
McClintock: And I was an insurance salesman for seven months. And I was a PA.
Kelly: I sold credit cards over the phone to people with bad credit!
McClintock: And so for me to be able to make a living doing what I’m doing. How could I complain?
