X-factor is actually making me more appreciative of American Idol, because on AI we get to see the contestants make their own disasterous decisions and we focus on their singing. Even though I think a number of the X Factor contenders are more talented than many of the AI top 12, I find all the "packaging" distracting and think it has more to do with the judges than the contestants. I have no sense of who most of them actually are as artists--and the sniping between the judges just seems self-indulgent and insincere. I like all the over 30s and am glad to see them have a chance to shine, but wish they'd had a different mentor. I hate it that Simon is mentoring the girls--Simon in doting father mode makes me gag. Hmm...I guess that I have FEELINGS.
