I saw Adam twice in the Bay Area and it was AMAZING of course, but I was shocked at how high pitched his voice seemed. I was in the top row of the balcony in SF and sometimes it seemed like he had breathed helium or something. I figured it was just the venue, but I noticed it again in Sacramento (though not as much). Anyone else???
I had awesome seats for the Sac show and it was just fucking epic all around!
I was in the balcony at the Nashville show, and I had the same experience. I wrote it off as being the sound system/venue because the guitars also seemed really high pitched and almost painfully brittle-sounding at times to me, but I've only seen him live that one time so I don't really have a basis for comparison. I mean, like you said, the show was fantastic. He just sounded way higher than I was expecting!
I've heard that the loudness affects some people's hearing--kind of knocks out the lower register and leaves the high register. I wear earplugs (or cotton, etc.) and have never had this experience. Although, I did get that effect for a minute at SF #1. It was *really* loud. My eardrums were vibrating even through the ear protection. Sometimes it helps if you put your fingers in your ears for a second.
I went to the same shows as you (I was even in the balcony for the first SF show) and had a very similar experience. But I thought that it got better with every show. But maybe it was because the Sac show was open-air and for SF #2 I was in GA. I dunno.
