J.J. commits!

While a new trailer for Super 8 is doing the rounds, prolific film maker JJ Abrams has confirmed that his next project will be the eagerly anticipated sequel to his Star Trek.

In an interview with Cinema Blend he said “The next thing we’re working on, and hopefully we’ll be able to pass information out sooner or later, is the next Star Trek.”

The sequel is slated for a June 29 2012 release and is set to reunite Abrams with his Captain Kirk Chris Pine, Spock played by Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban's Dr. Leonard 'Bones' McCoy, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Simon Pegg's Scotty, John Cho's Sulu and Anton Yelchin's Chekov.

While he is confident of making the July 29 release, he cares more about it being a good followup rather than rushing to get it out and added that he's not thinking about it following the current Hollywood trend of 3d adding “I’m not yet considering it, but you know, I haven’t gotten any phone calls from people in suits.”

Super 8 hits cinemas on August 5 and is expected to be a box office smash. The film stars Elle Fanning, Amanda Michalka, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich and Zach Mills.

I think they meant June 29 instead of July 29 the second time they mentioned the release date, but in any case it's gonna be rough trying to knock out such a big movie in a year when they haven't even started on it yet. And if anyone wants to put on a suit and call him to say not to bother with 3D, I will send you cookies. But I'm so glad we have some sort of confirmation that it'll happen! ♥
