Daisuke Takahashi , the 2010 World Figure Skating Champion, is already aiming for the 2014 Olympic Games, to be held in Sochi, Russia. He is investing intensively in his preparation, which includes a two-week training program in Lyon.

In Lyon, 25-year-old Daisuke Takahashi is taking advice from Muriel Boucher-Zazoui, former coach to French ice dance pairs Marina Anissina/Gwendal Peizerat and Isabelle Delobel/Olivier Schoenfelder, former European and World champions.

Muriel Boucher-Zazoui, along with Romain Haguenauer, both coaches at the Lyon Dance Academy, are involved in the training program.

“It’s my first time in Lyon. I needed to improve my skating technique. It’s not that my skating is not good, but you can improve certain things with the help of coaches whose competence is recognised worldwide,” Daisuke Takahashi explained.

He confessed to admiring the technique developed by Anissina/Peizerat and Delobel/Schoenfelder, who are now retired.
“My objective is to be ready to perform at Worlds, but the ultimate goal is to be in top form for the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, and it’s for this purpose that I’m currently in Lyon.”

"Daisuke wants us to take a look at his choreography and to work on his basic skating skills, the smoothness of edges and gestures,” explained Muriel Boucher-Zazoui.

The collaboration between Takahashi and the Lyon Dance Academy is not an isolated case. The Lyon academy regularly receives several foreign skaters to whom it offers guidance, both in figure skating and in ice dance.

World silver medalists in ice dance, Marie-France Dubreuil/Patrice Lauzon of Canada trained permanently in Lyon for many years, coached by Muriel Boucher-Zazoui and her team, which specializes in dance.

This year, Daisuke Takahashi is scheduled to compete at two Grand Prix events: NHK, in Japan, and Skate Canada. He hopes to reach the GP final, to compete at Japan Nationals and at the World Championships. His participation in the Four Continents Championships is still uncertain.
