Flashback: Best of Season Three

Mar 22, 2014 01:02

E! has rated the 15 best theme episodes of Psych, but what are your favorites from Season 3?

3x02 Murder? ...Anyone? ...Anyone? ...Bueller?
It's always fun when no one believes Shawn! Also when he solves retroactive mysteries. Adding cute Rachel Leigh Cook and Lassiter busting his date of the night, it's just a fun episode.

3x05 Disco Didn't Die. It was Murdered!
I love it when Henry teams up with Shawn and Gus, and also who the hell activates a bomb to find the guilty party? But I guess it's an effective method....for someone who doesn't want to die. Don't try it in real life.

3x06 There Might Be Blood
Carlton creeping on Chief Vick's sister. Jane Lynch and Kirsten Nelson getting into a hair flip-off. Pretty Ivy league murderesses. Gus being nobody's pawn, but a queen. Shawn and Gus being the worst kind of intruders and not wearing gloves when they break into a house. Gus's aggressive sniffing. Thanksgiving being a time for petty sibling squabbles. Jurisdictional battles.

3x07 Talk Derby to Me
Juliet undercover is always lots of fun, especially when there's more female interaction.

3x08 Gus Walks Into a Bank
Basically a nightmare scenario with a comedic twist, this episode is most memorable for Shawn & Juliet's first "date"

3x10 Six Feet Under the Sea/b>
Funeral for a sea lion aside, this episode showcased how humans pretend to be humane towards animals but are really only serving their own interests....so basically Psych was ahead of its time with this episode, which is clearly a more subtle prequel to Blackfish. Full disclosure, I actually haven't seen Blackfish.

3x11 Lassie Did a Bad, Bad Thing
Only a dumbass would try and frame Carlton Lassiter and then try to ambush him in his own apartment.

3x12 Earth, Wind, and...Wait for It
Psych is at its best when Shawn and Gus infiltrate something and just play off each other. Add in a dirty firefighter and like, real labor, and you have a classic episode

3x14 Truer Lies
Well of course Shawn, whose whole life is now a lie, would trust a pathological liar. It's basically a fun episode where you learn to trust pathological liars. Sort of.

3x16 An Evening with Mr. Yang
Oh my god. This is the episode that, in my mind, escalated Psych from fun to brilliant. This episode started out completely like other episodes, where there are pieces and bits of emotional investent. But then this episode played with our minds just as much as it did with Shawn's, this episode was a THRILLER. We're also introduced to the amazing Mary Golightly and Mr. Yang (well, not so mister but still). When I first watched it, I was both relieved and disappointed that Yang chose to just give up. Her reasoning for doing so seemed kind of lame and anticlimatic. It actually seemed like it was meant as a TV movie but then they just ran out of time. But by the time the musical rolls around at the end of season seven, her affection and admiration of Shawn's skills is so clear that I get it now, even though back then I didn't. Well that, and the whole story with Yang. Ally Sheedy is just brilliant in this role, it's a damn shame she's never been nominated for an Emmy for guest actress to be honest.

Also, okay, I am totally pro-Shawn and Juliet 4eva!!! But I'm really glad that Shawn decided to take a shot with Rachel Leigh Cook. Sometimes you have to get the people from the past out of your mind before you can really face the future. Also, Rachel Leigh Cook is just so likable okay.
