Brian did not hear Syaoran moving towards him, even though his perpetual awareness of the things going on around was not lowered.

Contrary to what might be said of Brian, he was not stupid. Yes, he was a bit brash at times, a bit too hot headed at times, he was not dumb: not to himself, to the people around him, and the situations he got himself. He was not a fool.

He kept his guard up, sniffed drinks for the scent of almonds, and was always, always armed in one way or another unless he was showering or maybe, once in a while, washing his dishes. So he did not hear the boy as he walked up to him, until he was withing striking range, and even then, as he judged the pace, he did nothing but swing his head around to look in his direction.

His hands were behind him, arms forming a makeshift back to the cement block that was the bench. He shot a lazy grin and spoke, voice light:

"Hey."

Brian shrugged, hands moving into his pocket. "I'll go home, or maybe get a drink." He glanced up when the rain hit his own face. "Something, but get out of the rain."

The bar. All of Reggio Calabria knew now where to find him: home, the Vescovo manor, or at that bar. Brian didn't mind, because he knew he wasn't an alcholic, and that his love of the drink didn't nearly rival the passion other men of similiar rank and status. The bar felt like a safe space, and had for years. So he had no interest in changing his local haunt.

Besides, sitting there, watching the people go by and making tiny unseen notes in his head, Brian was given something to do. Brian was always itching for something to do.

"I'll see you, I guess."

That conversation had been shorter than even most of the talks he held with members of the mansion. It didn't matter that much to him, though. There were more important things to worry about than how relations with adopted cousins were going.

He gave the kid a long, hard stare, before his mouth opened again.

"Do you want to come with?"

Hell, no harm in asking, right?

Just at that moment, Syaoran's phone rang. "Understood, Sir," was all Syaoran spoke back.

"Sure, why not. I don't really have anything to do."
