I can sympathise with most of this post; I also have a habit of dropping friends that I don't talk to enough, it's sad but it's something that happens often in life. And sometimes it's for the better depending on the situation, at least from my experience it has, especially if alongside them there's drama that you just don't want to deal with

About your family....I can also empathise, my family is not much better but I'm not going to get into that now. I think that the best thing you could do is gradually try to interact with your brother, slowly getting him off your mother's hands. Not too quickly, but slowly enough to possibly build a stronger patience.
