I don't know if I'd really call it deus-exy. Sure, it has that feeling, but JKR's pretty much been foreshadowing that this is what would happen between Harry and Voldie from day one.
I do wonder, though, how does her revelation about Dumbledore help explain OTP and HBP? Sure, it explains a lot about his relationship with Grindelwald, but that's really only in issue in Deathly Hallows. I mean, the whole reason she made that revelation on her own, instead of as part of the story, is that it really shouldn't have effected the story. And personally, I commend her for that. It's refreshing to see a writer create a [spoilers hidden] character who isn't defined by that fact. It's much more true to life.
To be honest, that's one pet peeve I have about the entire internet fandom phenomenon. They all seem to define entire stories by the romantic relationships they like or want to see, instead of taking the story as a whole. It's annoying, really.
It's not the Harry/Voldie fight proper that irked me, it was the massive exposition when Harry was "dead." I mean, Back from the dead? I can buy that. Conveniently conversing with Dumbledore? Well, I just flash back to that episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation where Picard dies and Q is there in the white room.
And yes, OTP as in "one true pairing." I'm a big fan of the idea of Dumbledore/Snape. ...It's more logical than most other Snape pairings, anyway. Unless you really twist it and say that Hermione reminds him of Lily, but Snape/Hermione is nasty. *shudder*
OTP as in "One True Pairing! I thought you meant Order of The Phoenix. As if Dumbledore's proclivities somehow actually explained the events of those two books. Nevermind. Carry on. >.>
*is a huge HP geek* :D I loved JKR's revelation, personally. I got that vibe the first time I read Deathly Hallows (ALL DAY ON JULY 21ST YES I AM A NERD THANK YOU VERY MUCH), but I thought "Eh, maybe it's just me reading too much into stuff..." then BAM. Beautiful.
Glad you enjoyed the series, though. I've been a fan since 1999, and reading DH was so bittersweet...
