My first Skins video!! WOO!!! And it wouldn't have been possible without the wonderful
ibreatheforher, who sent me the episode 'Naomi'. Thanks love!
Essentially this video is just me getting to know the characters and the clips themselves - I'm fairly new to Skins and have only watched it properly for the last couple of months. I fell in love with the Emily and Naomi storyline, though, and so I wanted to make the vid.
There's no real, obvious storyline apart from the fact that it more or less follows the lyrics and is basically about Emily's feelings for Naomi. The 'regular' colour is the present, the pink parts in the bridge are Emily's fantasies of what a relationship with Naomi might be like, and the brightest parts are when they're together and falling into a relationship.
Production notes
SONG: I struggled for ages to pick a song for Emily and Naomi - for my first video I didn't want to do anything too heavy, I wanted something a bit lighter and happier; however, some of the lighter, poppier songs were just didn't gel with the show, because the show and all the cinematography is far grittier and more... real. So I basically just went through my iPod and started listening to the songs that I felt had the right amount of vulnerability, but also an underlying toughness. And I found this one, and went for it!
EFFECTS: I took a different tack with this video in terms of clip placement - the beat was so insistent that it was basically demanding that I cut the clips to the beat. I followed the muse and did it, but it was incredibly challenging as occasionally it got a bit hard to see the actual clips, it was moving so fast. Eventually I decided to pick a scene and chop back and forth between Emily and Naomi, which seemed to work better and also reflected the more combative element of their relationship. Because the clip speed was so much faster than usual, I didn't do a huge amount in terms of colouring in case it overcrowded the video and distracted the viewer. I eventually divided it into three parts: the first part is the constant to-and-fro element of their relationship (will they or won't they), the second is Emily's thoughts of the way she'd like their relationship to be, and the last part is when the barriers come down and what Emily wants actually happens. 2.05 onwards is my favourite :)
