Hurrah, it's valentines day. *note the sarcasm* No, I don't loathe the holiday because i'm single. I really don't mind that at all, and actually prefer it that way. What I dislike so much about this absurd and idiotic holiday is that it's 100% not necessary, and if anyone were to stop and think about it, would likely realize that it's a marketing ( Read more... )

Mhmm, I agree that this 'holiday' has become nothing more than a marketing scheme, and I also agree that people should show their love, or whatever, for others year-round. However! I've read somewhere or other that people started giving each other silly little hearts and whatnot on February 14 because it was long believed that birds start mating for the season mid-way through February, or the 14th of the month for those paying attention. Now, how mating birds translate into giving your significant other chocolates is beyond me, and to be perfectly honest I'm not even sure why I felt compelled to post about it. Hmm. Nevermind, I guess. <3!

My guess it was just a ploy made by the chocolate companies, and likely one whos president was a bit touched in the head. Really, it makes as much sense as a giant rabbit hiding eggs and giving out candy on what was meant to be a significant religious holiday.

Well, my Canadian/English/Australian friend. *is unsure of what other countries use words like honour, favour, flavour, etc* That is a very fascinating bit of info. Leave it up to religions to usurp a pagan holiday and make it into a celebration based on a tyrannical act which resulted in death.
