this article was a bit hard for me to understand. It has that facts-only-maam, succint newspaper style.

I did not realize there were still schools denying access to students based on his/her race!

Well, it's an AP article so it was "just the facts." I like to post these articles sometime just as a "conversation starter" on the old blog. I actually think it's a tricky article... read it again and I'll answer any questions you have (if you wish).

Unfortunetly, racism is still a huge problem in this country, and in the world. There is talk of the World Cup being cancelled at any minute if fans or teams get racist. It's a big problem, not matter how anyone looks at it. It's a horrible shame. You would think that in the year 2006, there wouldn't be so much hate. But I feel like it's getting worse because of the increased hate towards people from the Middle East and also towards Hispanics. It's even worse when it's swept under the rug. Racism just disgusts me, plain and simple.

I agree with you that because of the increase in injustice toward Middle-Easterners there is an increase in racial prejudice in general. I think that whenever there is a conservative backlash or rise in scapegoating it effects all minorities or disinfranchisized. But I also think that there is beginning to be more of a polarization between those who "get" this issue and those who "don't." In other words it's not just black and white but also conservatives and progressives.
