Zaka went to Haiti and worked over shabbos, stopping to break for two hours of davening. Now they are getting it from both sides.

Which one is crazier?

1. Sites which criticize Zaka for stopping for two hours to daven?

2. Or sites which criticize Zaka for going there and "being mechallel shabbos" in the first place?

3. Or... YWN posters who ( Read more... )

crazy, shabbos, tznius

Yikes!

#1 is just a crankypants whiner. If you gave him a sack full of $100 bills, he'd complain about having to make change.

#2 Interesting - I'd like to know the halacha behind their decisions. Comment 18 is right on!

#3 Oh for the love of Pete, get a grip dude!

I vote for 3. Perhaps, if they are so concerned, they should spend their time photoshopping sleeves onto the earthquake victims instead of polluting the internet with more crazy.

Number 1...I mean...if I try really hard I can see kind of where that comes from, but 2 hours? If they were sleeping, or eating, would they get that kind of flak?

Number 2 should be quiet and join the photoshopping people.

Complaining about Complaint on Photos, come on? ext_221212 January 18 2010, 10:06:02 UTC
Oh come on, every paper makes decisions on what's appropriate or not for their publication. Lets say they found an area where everyone was nude, should that be in? Or some photos of people/bodies horribly mutilated, as in crushed skulls of children with brains spilling out (there are such pictures circulating from Haiti, I had the misfortune to click on a Twitpic link that returned such), should that be published?

The editors decide what kind of photos convey what they're trying to convey to their audience. Since a charedi paper has a charedi audience, filtering for tznius while still choosing appropriate disaster pics is perfectly appropriate. And choosing shell shocked people pics with fallen buildings is perfectly appropriate without focusing on the part of the building with crushed bodies and organs oozing out from underneath. You still get the idea without being taken too far.

Filtering for horror is appropriate, because it is possible that people will be horrified and traumatized from seeing crushed skulls.

And filtering for tznius sleeves? That is appropriate because uh... people might actually become aroused from seeing earthquake victims in shorts? Is that your argument? How many people do you know who would become aroused from seeing earthquake victims in short sleeves? Are they mentally unwell? Is that who we are filtering for- the mentally unwell?

A- by a long shot, YaWN tops the list.
B- I think 'the site' which criticize Zaka for stopping for two hours to daven? made a big judgement mistake. I do not think they should be criticised for that. They should be praised for what they did. As to 'the site' which criticize Zaka ......hours to daven? He should be praying instead that God give the Zaka volunteers health and vigor.
C- .....criticize Zaka for going there and "being mechallel shabbos".....they should be totally dismissed. There are idiots everywhere!
