Clive Barker: Imajica

You know, Clive Barker is such an extraordinary fantasy/horror writer that I sometimes forget how deeply religious he is. Not that he adheres to any kind of standardized religion, or rather, if he does it's not evident in his works; but everything he writes is so deeply imbued with a sense of spiritual awareness, this sort of metaphysical ( Read more... )

I've been known to take an interest to life occasionally, so I might pick this up ;)

Joke aside I really love getting tips on good books and authors! Recs in all forms are lovely and books are so hard to 'search' for so book recs are the loveliest of all :D

Oh, good! I was wondering if anyone actually read this things. (I finished Neil Gaiman's Fragile Things yesterday and was going to write something up on it, but then I didn't because I decided no one cared. XD)

You can't go wrong with Clive Barker, honestly; everything that man writes is solid gold. My absolute favorite works by him, if you're interested, are Galilee and Sacrament; he also has a 'children's book' out called The Thief of Always which is absolutely brilliant, if you're looking for a quick read.

I'll have to pick up something by him one of these days - another friend of mine recommended him as well just a few days ago. As soon as I'm over my scifi-binge and I have the time, Barker is at the top of my list!

Btw, have you read "Darkmans" by Nicola Barker? It's my latest reading project - I've not finished it yet, but I'm more than half way through and it's still good. Got a bit of a "stream of consciousness"-thing going on, but whether you like that kind of thing or not the characters are interesting, plot is creepy and fantasy-ish enough to please me.

In short, I'd suggest it as an interesting read.
