Sanctuary season one picspam.
Or: You should be watching Sanctuary and here's why!

What is Sanctuary and why should you be watching it? Well, first of all, Sanctuary is a science fiction show (don't let this scare you off! There are ample doses of fantasy, mythology, and supreme badassery) that tells the story of English scientist, Dr. Helen Magnus. Magnus is a legendary HBIC who just so happens to be 157 years old and, frankly, really fucking cool. She and her team run a Sanctuary for "abnormal" creatures (ie: mermaids, elemental powers, and Big Foot, and other creatures that go bump in the night.) to provide them with safety and care, while the team expand their knowledge of what is out there. It's an extremely smart, witty, and visually gorgeous show that is gearing up for its 2nd season come October, and I highly recommend it to everyone. And just in case I have yet to convince you, here are a few of the more important reasons in list form (because I enjoy lists about nerdy things like tv):
  • Amanda Tapping. This needs no further explanation
  • Robin Dunne routinely runs around without a shirt and in other various states of undress. It's incredibly enjoyable, I assure you.
  • Christopher Heyerdahl's voice is cause for multiple parties in your pants.
  • In that same vein, really sexy English accents.
  • It features vampires that, thankfully, do not sparkle or dazzle or any variation thereof.
  • The special effects are out of this world. They're nominated for an Emmy, so respect it!
  • They are all WILDLY attractive people with exceedingly pretty hair. And one that is bald. But he makes it sexy.
And now, without further ado, the picspam!

Will: Who are you?
Helen: Let's just say I'm someone who has chosen to embrace the full spectrum of our reality. There are things in this city, in this world, that no one wants to admit are real.

Helen: The purpose the Sanctuary is to find and help the unfortunate creatures of this world. Some need saving, others cannot be allowed to roam free.

Will: You work with monsters!
Helen: I work with sentient beings. Each worthy of the same respect that humans, even animals, receive automatically. These creatures are the key to the evolution to our race, past and future. Yet we revile them, destroy them, and worst of all, pretend they don't even exist. But they are out there, Dr. Zimmerman, lost like the child you saw tonight. Misunderstood, hunted. And they need our help, your help.

Helen: I am 157 years old.
Will: How is any of this possible?
Helen: When you work at the frontiers of science for as long as I have, the rewards and curses are... unexpected.

John: Did you ever love me? I mean truly love me? You know I am just an element of your subconscious mind, so feel free to be completely frank.
Helen: When I first knew you at Oxford, I loved you with my entire being.
John: Those were passionate times, gone too quickly, followed by very dark days.
Helen: You destroyed my heart, John. Even though I understood why you had changed; your ailment, the hatred you felt towards me, and then the way you would harm our daughter.
John: Let me make it up to you. I need you to wake up.

Ashley: Henry, have you had a chance to check out my nubbins?
Henry: ... Oh, you mean the... no. But I would like to. *He walks over* I gotta admit, your nubbins are pretty amazing.
Ashley: Don't you just want to squeeze them?

Nikola: Helen Magnus. Kiss me and I'll save your life.
Helen: And if I don't?
Nikola: Ah, come on. It's been 60 years. Just plant one on me already.
Helen: *She kisses him* Nikola Tesla. You always did know how to get attention.

John: We were a part of something, something we called The Five. A small group dedicated to expanding our knowledge of the physical world. Your mother was able to procure a very rare sample of ancient untainted vampire blood. One that was collected before the sterilization of the species was carried out. Blood that supposedly possessed miraculous properties. No one had ever dared inject pure sanguine vampirus until your Mother derived a serum from it.

Ashley: He's my father, isn't he?
Helen: Yes, he is. *After a long pause* I've never shown you Rome, have I?
Ashley: There was never time.
Helen: I have a lot to make up for.

Helen: It's incredible, isn't it? It's like sunshine, like a drug.
Will: Magnus, listen to me-
Helen: You're not yourself, Helen. That thing's got control of you. I can help you, Helen. I know what you're trying to do. You're trying to profile me, aren't you? Like a common criminal. Well here's a little secret for your books; I'm not so common.

Helen: You are the most talented medical researcher I have ever known, and yet you keep your most important work hidden from the world. From me. If you truly believe that I have potential, Father, please help me achieve it.
Dr. Gregory Magnus: Once you enter this door, you are on a path that cannot be reversed.

Will: You've got to believe that fate brought you here for a reason.
James: Yes, why are you here, Druitt?
John: To save the world as we know it. And, time allowing, to reassert my superiority in our battle of wits.

Helen: Suck it up, Jimmy. We're going to India!

Clara: What the hell was all that about?
Will: Well, the guy who invented the radio just dissed Jack the Ripper.

John: They've done something to her.
Helen: She'll be all right, John. She's strong.
John: I'd like to stay close if you don't mind.
Helen: Of course. *He goes to the door* John, thank you.

Helen: Ashley...
Will: Magnus! The whole thing was a set up, something else is going on.
Helen: We're too late.
