[ Report II ] The Library

Dec 27, 2011 23:24

This dream has an old familiarity to it, almost homey despite the rather fantastic setting. It's a library, but not one that would likely exist anywhere. The shelves are formed of translucent ice, formed in to whorls and twisting pillars that hold countless numbers of books. As if to completely defy logic, flowers grow from the floor and the ( Read more... )

[There's one place it would exist: with her. The genius bookworm and goddess of ice is entirely at home among the frozen shelves and their books. This is a place she could have made for herself and, now that she sees it, there's a high chance of her doing so somewhere in her waking world. It's beautiful.

Mercury steps forward, looks down to the floor and the books cast there, then back to Tseng. She does not seem pleased, and her voice is slightly forceful.]

I don't like seeing books treated that way. Pick them up properly, and I'll consider helping you - if they're not damaged.

[He's surprised to see her, and frowns. He does tuck the book in his hand under his arm though.]

They aren't.

[He's completely sure about it, he's tried before on one of the recurring visits here.]

There usually isn't anyone else here.

What a rude way to welcome a guest! [She doesn't seem too bothered by it, though, from that airy tone and her posture.] You should greet me properly instead, Ok?

[Meanwhile, since she doesn't entirely expect him to in fact 'greet her properly', she's looking over more of the books as she picks them up from the floor.]

[There may be some she can read that he can't, but all he can see is what looks like a two year old's scribbling and blobs of blurry color where pictures should be.]

Sorry, as I said before; there usually isn't anyone but me here. It's good to see you again though, Doctor.

A library was not one of Kadaj’s preferred places to go. Yazoo, his brother, would find it more comfortable here amidst all the hidden knowledge. The young remnant strode down the rows of books. He’d caught sight of something interesting, very interesting indeed.

Kadaj roughly plopped down into a chair opposite of someone familiar. “That doesn’t surprise me.” He reached out and pulled the book towards him, only to chuck it aside. “Turks were never that smart to begin with.”

Tseng whirled, drawing his gun and pointing it at Kadaj's head as the temperature dropped fast enough to crackle.

"You aren't welcome here." He hissed, voice matching the suddenly arctic atmosphere. The bookshelves shuddered, and in the distance the sound of splitting ice shook the endless room.

The remnant glared up through silver fringe. A glare that may be all too similar to the one Sephiroth used to display. “Does it matter?” Kadaj asked callously. He did not show fear in the face of the gun. However, he did something else unusual by his standards-he didn’t attack. At least not right away. Kadaj wasn’t in the mood.

Besides, this turk was much more valuable alive than dead, and if beating him didn’t work, maybe a casual talk would. It wasn’t Kadaj’s preferred method but it was still a method used for getting useful information on Mother’s whereabouts. Find more out about the Turk, discover how he thinks, etc.

“It’s a shame none of those books taught you any manners,” he sneered, staring Tseng down.

Tseng may have been a man usually willing to sort messes out with words over blood, but Kadaj was a special case. The Remnants had bitten in to something few had ever gotten away with when they'd taken him and Elena; you didn't screw around with Turks. Pleasant and calm as Tseng was, he was still a operative of the cutthroat side of ShinRa's might, and as the Director he was just as ruthlessly efficient as the rest of them.

He didn't play games.

"You never learned any either."

He pulled the trigger.

Cloud's more fascinating by the flowers than the falling books or structures of ice. He's very, very carefully picking his way through them, trying not to step on any and doing a surprisingly good job of it considering his clunky boots and usual careless way of walking. He does raise his head at Tseng's voice though and his brows come down as another book falls.

"You should be more careful of the flowers."

Tseng gave him a sad half smile, turning and casually crossing his arms. "They're fine, if there was any danger to them they'd move." He replied calmly, "They're... special like that."

"Aerith's flowers?" it's an easy guess. Cloud's eyes lift from the plants, move over the books and settle on the Turk. He doesn't know Tseng very well - just as well as a man dying in front of you can be known. But - he was important to Aerith. That means something pretty big in Cloud's book.

And Cloud had an uneasy alliance with the Turks by this point. What was left of them at least. He hadn't seen most of them since Meteor though and he hadn't seen Tseng since the Temple. Speaking of which -

"Elena tried to hit me because of you."

Tseng doesn't answer the question, it's just over the side of personal that he doesn't know how the hero would react. He instead fixes the blond with an amused look.

"You'll have to forgive her, she didn't know that I'm far too stubborn to die that easily." It was something of a sick running joke really, people always thinking he was dead or replaced by himself. "I'm sure Tifa would try to hit me if she thought I killed you."
