[This wasn't exactly what Axel had imagined becoming a wielder would be like. It should be a day of celebration, right? A day spent with Sora looking on proudly. Not kneeling in front of him, injured and- speaking like this.

They'd come so far together, stuck it out through way too much, to have things end so suddenly like this. That just wouldn't be fair.]

[Axel grins with forced determination and avoids meeting the other's eyes as he offers his free hand for Sora to take, refusing to acknowledge the extent of his wounds.

Maybe- maybe this was a test.]

[He gives Axel a ghost of a smile, though there's a hint of a grimace at its edges. He wishes he were joking, but despite the smile, he's dead serious.] Not this time, Axel.

[When Axel's hand reaches out for him, Sora reaches back. But it isn't to help himself up. It's to bring it forward, resting the others' fingers against the hilt of the weapon. Axel... he's been ready for a long time. Sora's just sorry that the inheritance ceremony has to come at such a bleak hour. He wishes he could've given Axel something grander, something he really deserves. But this is really all he has right now, and at least it'll help him get out in one piece.]
