Ok, I am possibly the last person on the planet not to have/use Paypal, but I need to now. I've got an account set up. Is that all I have to do to have people pay me? Just tell them to Paypal money to my email address? And that's enough information for them to be able to send me money ( Read more... )

Yes, they go into paypal and make a payment by sending it to your paypal email address.

You can put money into your own paypal account by transferring from your bank account into paypal.

Any money I get into my paypal I usually leave there or withdrawl to my checking account. I've never gotten a e-check.

It's just like doing a wire transfer.

The e-check costs money. Only $1.50, but still, that's $1.50 I could squander on something else. ;)

If you want to accept credit card payments on a regular basis, though, you need an upgraded account... I think it's called premium or platinum, or something else with a p. With the regular free account, you can only accept a limited number of credit card payments per year, or something like that.

Yeah, I'm going to set up another, separate account to accept credit cards eventually. For right now, I think all I need is one for cash.

Hesitate strongly before upgrading. Or do as you are, and have two separate accounts. :)

Why do you recommend against upgrading? Just b/c they take a fee out of every transaction with the upgraded account? (Which, yes, definitely sucks, I'm just wondering if there is more I don't know about.)

For my own purposes, it seems like too big of a hassle to have to ask someone ahead of time if they plan to pay by credit card or cash, so I may just suck up those fees, or find some other way of accepting credit cards, so I can pay fees only on the credit card transactions.

Aside from just having them send you the money you can also "Request Money" which emails them the amount and a link to pay along with a short description that you enter. To get even snazzier they now have an invoicing tool which is much more professional looking.

Oh, awesome. That sounds kind of fun. I think I'll try it just to test out how it works.

yes, that is all you need to do.

also, paypal has the option of letting you send an invoice to the other person's email. that is my memory of it, anyway.

if you get a website, you can put a button on their for paypal payment. easy peasy.
