Tornado Video

My secret desire: to see a real tornado (from a safe distance, of course). Yes, I know, I know, that's totally insane and I'd never say such a thing if I'd ever experienced it first-hand. But I've been weirdly attracted to tornados since I was four and watched The Wizard of Oz for the first time. Seriously, I even dream about tornados ( Read more... )

storms, dreams

Hi, Jen,
Just had to say, I had a close encounter with a tornado a few years ago. I was driving home during a terrible storm, came around a corner and looked about a quarter of a mile straight ahead of me and said to myself, "What IS that? Smoke from a fire? Can't be, it's pouring rain." Then it dawned on me that it was a tornado. Apparently it dawned on the other people driving along that same road at the same moment, because we all slammed on our breaks, did U-turns in the middle of the highway, and drove at maniac speeds in the opposite direction. Btw, everything I did that day was WRONG. I should have immediately pulled over and hunkered down in the ditch, but, hey, I was wearing white shorts. :)

It was one of the scariest and most exhilerating experiences of my life and my family is tired of hearing me tell the story, so it's nice to have fresh ears!:)

Thanks for letting me share~
Julie

OMG, that is soooo COOL! See, this is all I want--to get a good look at the thing and then get safely out of the way. But just to see it! Thanks so much for sharing this!

Like thrill rides. Like the Magnum at Cedar Point. This ride alone is worth the price of admission to the park. Every time I get on it I'm convinced I'm gonna die. :D

ha! apparently you're not the only one who's a grape shy. Those guys are like, totally wow! Nuts! Not that it isn't fascinating footage, mind you.
I remember hunkering down in my basement for hours growing up in Ohio during tornado watches. Scary as hell!

I'm in Ohio, but tornados don't hit my area. Well, one hit about 20 years ago and blew up a greenhouse a mile away (nothing else in the neighborhood was damaged). But it's very, very rare.

Sometimes I think maybe we really are sisters. I've been talking for years about going on one of those storm watcher vacations. Yep, they have 'em just for people like you and me. They put us in a van, follow the storms, and hope we get a chance to see one up close but not personal.

I'd give my eye teeth to do that! That is, if the dentist hadn't already pulled them to make room for my braces.

Having been married to a metaphorical tornado, I have no desire to experience a wind-based one. Plus we're only one city away from Xenia, which has been decimated twice. Nope, no storm watching for me. If it thunders twice, I load my back-up disks into a backpack along with a change of underwear and a flashlight and go stand by the cellar door. More power to you would-be courters of death though, lol.

Good thing I live where I live. I don't even have a cellar.
