Harpo Bathdaze!

Are we going to be able to throw presents at you at some point? Or cake? Or a cake wrapped in a present baked in a cake?

Yes, there'll be a gathering probably at Barbara's next weekend or something. I know cake is the traditional birthday foodstuff, but i prefer pie. How about we compromise: a cake wrapped in a pie?

cool story, too. The book that cleaned my clock forever was 1984. I think I was 11. I know for a fact it was the first adult novel I ever read, and it was essentially thrown at me by a middle school teacher who saw how fucking bored I was in study hall. Thanks, Mr. Sykes.

Interesting. I remember another Orwell rocking my pubescent world: "Animal Farm." That was another "gulp it down in one breathless night" read.

Ooh, is that the one where the last one is they only live eight days in these caves, only the guy finds out if he sleeps in the ship he doesn't die? 'Cause I loved that one. I found it in my elementary school library, too.

You're thinking of "Fire and Ice," and yep, that's in there. In fact, several years after reading that, I was in 7th grade English class and we were studying short stories and our assignment was to write one of our own, based on a short story we liked a lot, and I based mine on "Fire and Ice!" So you win a million dollars for mentioning it.

Oops, it was actually called "Frost and Fire." "Fire and Ice" was a Ralph Bakshi fantasy cartoon. You still get the million dollars.
