Recap of yesterday

Apr 01, 2010 04:53

We saw the midwife yesterday, got bloodwork results.  GTT results were good (I'm SO done with the gestational diabetes fear-mongering), iron was normal (for a pregnant lady), and thyroid was perfect.  Fundal height was measuring exactly on schedule, Sprout's heartbeat was 155 bpm.  14 pounds gained, which the midwife says is also perfect.  ( Read more... )

I've heard the reason why many psychiatrists don't like patients who say what drugs they want is b/c many patients are just looking for drugs, not for treatment of psychological issues. It's a shame they ruin it for the rest of us/you. The last dermatologist I had was the same way as your psychiatrist once he figured out I knew what I was talking about (he was brusque at first). Once he did know me better, he'd listen to my recommendations and sent me out to research other things he'd heard of, it was great. My current dermatologist (old one moved away) also listens to me, but more b/c he's unfamiliar with my condition. :( For now I'm getting sufficient treatment though, so I don't see need to hunt up a new derm.

Yeah, I could see that being the case if I were on any sort of controlled substance.

I stumbled upon this site yesterday and when you mentioned gestational diabetes fear-mongering, it reminded me.

http://myobsaidwhat.com/

I spent like, 2 hours reading that site last night. Some OBs are fuckheads.

OMG, that site.
I'm so glad I'm not using an OB, though there are a few WTF midwife statements on there too. My midwife is part of a hospital based practice (the only way my insurance will cover one), so she has to follow many of the rules & restrictions that were put into place by the medical establishment and I think that often accounts for some of the what-the-fuckery that women tend to get from North American midwives.

OMG - that site is awful. When I was pregnant with my last one, I didn't go to the midwife until I was about seven months along. I had been pregnant enough times to know when things were going good and when they weren't. Things were fine, but because I waited so long, they tried to tell me everything under the sun was wrong with the baby...head was too big for her body, so she must be undernourished (nope, just had a big head :-) ), they didn't see her pee during the ultrasounds so her kidneys weren't functional (wrong), heart rate was too fast (they had me laying on my back for an early morning exam and I hadn't eaten yet. They sent me to the hospital for that one...as soon as the hospital nurse turned me on my side and gave me some crackers and juice, everything was fine.) Dana was born a healthy baby girl at 7lbs, 10 oz ( ... )

Good luck with that. I hate shopping around for mental health care professionals. I always feel like the getting-to-know-me period takes forever until they can actually help me. It's frustrating because I can be slow to trust.
