Jessica is initiated into the world of Squarepusher

Like most people, Jess ain't a big fan of Squarepusher. She likes a few songs all right, such as My Red Hot Car, but mostly it's blips, blops, and eardrum-exploding squeals. I can relate. I feel that way about some of the new Autechre stuff. We all have an abstractness (it's a word) threshold when it comes to music ( Read more... )

I had a feeling you would.

I too have experienced being in someones presence while they are totally blown away by a song that I've played several times for them before...but never noticed. I agree with you in full about ppl not really "listening" to music due to mainstream influence. This "easy to listen to" music appears to dumb down peoples ideas of what music actually CAN be. It seems that a lot of decent artists are going that direction lately....obviously in the name of $. Too bad. I really dislike meeting people that think that %100 electronic music isnt really "music". Those people get dosed with LSD in their sleep. I've also noticed that people who usually don't respond to complex/abraisive music while sober will usually start to open up while drunk/intoxicated. Kind of a wierd thing...take stupid average person, make him/her stupider w/ alcohol/drugs, and they will usually appreciate more complex things. Usually.

Just a thought.

Oh, and if you ever go on slsk again, I have some VERY cool IDM for you.

That is all.

i can't lose, people can't argue with me because i have a paper bag on my head, they would just look foolish, and no matter what i type here at the very least people would have to say "well that's pretty insightful for someone with a paper bag on their head"

most of the IDM people are the only ones still pushing the boundries with music. no rock bands are doing that right now. there are times when i listen to the future sound of london and i just completely forget about everything else. and its not even that complicated of music. ive recently been moved by one of squarepushers songs, and its a really short song too. i think its only an exerpt, but its the song that is on the lost in translation soundtrack. every time i hear it i stop dead in my tracks. it made a stronger impression on me than anything else that was on the hard normal daddy album.
