I wish I were brave enough to dress like an idiot. You know there are days when I feel like wrapping my head in a huge turban a la Erykah Badu and pile one beads and beads and beads matched with an artfully ripped band t-shirt the way Brody Dalle used to cut up her Rancid shirts. I wish that too! There was a time in college I'd sometimes hang out with a bunch of artists, and they were all in colorful native clothes and tons of beaded jewelry. Good thing I was in mourning for a relationship at the time and so my wardrobe was almost all black -- I looked kinda artsy in a minimalist, modern way. Or so I keep telling myself.

I think the key is to do it gradually. A few beads here and there for a week or two. Then upgrade slowly. You could be wearing a turban in a few months! Also, it might help to take up painting or something, to justify dressing unconventionally.

Me too. I would also want an alternate identity to go with the chutzpah. My main identity can't live up to it full time.

I envy people with style, especially if they have their own look. I used to dress like Huckleberry Finn, but when you start looking middle-aged, the effect changes from endearingly goofy to something between pathetic and creepy. Now I want to wear suits but I keep spending the money on music gear instead.
