LJ Idol Week 22: No Land in Sight

Apr 14, 2010 00:08

I used to work in a local ice cream shop where everyone called me Scoop Dog, the gangsta of frozen dairy. And by everyone, I mean me. I even wrote it on my time card. And that made it legit. I carried this pseudo nickname for four years while compiling cones, spinning shakes, and cycling cyclones. It was during this time that I lost my ( Read more... )

We had two basins at my first job, side-by-side. One to wash and one to rinse and sanitize. Once, someone (okay, me) forgot about a running faucet and overflowed the first sink with scalding hot water. Too hot to stick your arm in and just pull out the plug. We had no available containers with which to bail ... one of the guys tried to use his hand to make waves and shove some water out that way, but it was simply too hot. So he used a ladle.

Haha. Sounds like a Jiffy adventure there (our store was called Jiffy Treet...so said "Jiffy" in front of anything related). Did you not have a rubber glove? Lol...

Actually no we didn't! The cheapskates. Although that reminds me now of over-filling the basin in another job where we -did- have rubber gloves ... which were shorter than the basin was deep.

"It was during this time that I lost my virginity and gained my Bachelor’s degree, among other things."

Did you do both at the ice cream shop? lol

You are truly talented.

I love how you compared what you gained and lost.

I love this phrase:

spinning shakes, and cycling cyclones.

I love how you said the flavors "melted" instead of just saying you stopped carrying them:)

But this line was the best:

You can’t save the Titanic with a 12 ounce Styrofoam cup.

And it's oh so true. I know Titanics like that myself. That line really spoke to me.

Wow! Isn't tomorrow like the anniversary of the real Titanic sinking day too?
I have a sister who waitresses in a restaurant like this place. She's barely hanging on, and the place is coming to pieces. SOme new guy just bought it, so she still has a chance if the owner has a few bucks to spare.
