Around episode 25, the show begins focusing on the various romantic subplots going on, and moving them forward.

First we (finally) see the wedding of Xu Tianhong and Zhou Qi. They're very cute together. They didn't get along at first, but facing danger together seems to have worked.

I was watching this but gave up because I was super confused. Clearly, I must persevere!

tbh, a lot of stuff with the emperor doesn't interest me and I end up fast forwarding through that. But I do enjoy the interpersonal stuff with a lot of the other characters, as well as the overall tone of the show. For whatever reason I've kept going :)
