She feels like she's been bouncing around her townhouse forever.  It's really only been a handful of weeks, but Jenny is itching to get back to her office.  She's hearing horror stories about the idiot who is temporarily running things.  Just thinking about it makes her cringe.  But her doctor hasn't cleared her for work any more than the Feds have ( Read more... )

It's late and he's back at the office - or has he never left? The days are running together despite Heather's best attempts to keep him partially sane. He will never, ever be able to repay her patience through this. But he knows her motives are not completely born of love for him. She wants to make sure Jenny is okay and he is the closest link.

Tonight it is all Vance's files. He's committed most of what he needs on Jen to memory, but it's Vance who remains a dangerous, elusive mystery. The ladder climbing bastard had information not just on Jenny but on all senior agents who might challenge him. He was tied not just to groups in Russia and Serbia but his links to Mossad bother Gibbs' gut at a visceral level. No one has that close a friendship to Eli David without a reason.

She's parked on her couch, watching CNN on mute. Alex is around somewhere, probably playing with the animals. Picking up her phone, she dials Gibbs' cell and waits for him to answer. She knows he's awake and she knows he's probably at his desk. The only other place he'd be is getting a coffee refill.

His movement is instinctive, and he pauses in answering only to make sure he checks the caller ID. Too many people are supposed to be calling, not the least of whom is Ziva. It's Jen and he breathes out a bit; he'd been expecting this call. "Yes, Director?" He asks upon answering. His tone is not nearly as formal as his words, but he is sitting at his desk.

"I was just wondering, Jethro, why the investigation seems to have stalled out," she says, with a hint of a purr in her voice, stretching her legs out, all the way to her toes. She's wearing a pair of really short shorts and her bare skin feels good against the soft fabric of the couch. She's in this weird place emotionally, caught between feeling sensual and disfigured. The large crew neck sweater she's wearing speaks to that.
