Liz is actually in much the same position. She's weighing decisions she's made over the last few weeks against the realities of her life and while she's always been more internal than her best friend, at some point she needs to talk to her and tell her. But she's not quite ready to go there yet. When her phone rings, she looks around, glad Ziva is in bed for now. Slowly, she reaches for it, trying not to be too eager. "Hey," she says when she answers.

"Hi," Jen answers, making sure there's as much affection as she can muster. Briefly, she wonders if Liz knows how good it is to hear her voice, but then Jen remembers Liz always knows. "How are you doing?"

There's a gentle smile that Liz knows will carry across the line. "Oh, you know, the usual. Only this time there's a ninja in my house too." She leaves her own decisions off for now. As good as it is to hear Jenny, she can also tell something is up. It's not that this is a phone call, those aren't completely out of the ordinary, but there's a twinge in her voice. It's familiar. Nervous. No matter how hard she tries to mask it. "What about you?"

Jen really is glad Ziva is there, if only because Jen knows no one will get past her. "I'm alright." She pauses as she tried to figure out how to tell Liz. Maybe straightforward is just the best with this in general. It's not even almost funny. It's downright absurd. "Got hit with a bit of a surprise yesterday."
