The Unexpected

Jen tucked Jaime into the crib in the nursery and left the baby monitor nearby before closing the door.  Making her way down the hall, she can feel her pulse pick up as she runs through the conversation in her head.  In the bedroom she paces back and forth, wondering how and why and WHAT THE FUCK.  What's the saying about even the best laid plans

Jethro finally got Daniel settled into his bed and asleep before finally making his way out and into the hallway. He sighed and shook his head before heading to their bedroom running his hand down his face. He saw Jen pacing and looked at her curiously.

Jethro nodded,"Good, I mean that you're healthy. What do you want to do Jen?"

She lets out a sigh as she rubs her hands over her face and sits on the bed. Looking at him, she says, "I don't know."

He sat down next to her reaching over to take her hand.

She looks at his hand for a moment before threading her fingers with his.

"We're going to figure this out,"he gave her hand a gentle squeeze.

"I know," she squeezes back and sits for a moment. "What do you want to do, Jethro?"

"Honestly? I'm not sure. We have an eight year old who has had a major set back, a newborn, and you'll be going back to work."

[on_jennys_terms]

"I know," she says again, a little frustrated that he keeps stating the obvious. Sighing again, she adds, "And I have a trip to Paris in..." she gestures and drops her hand to her lap, "I don't even know when it is."

"Could we handle it, maybe. If we try is it going to mean a world of stress, yes."

She brings her knee up on the bed as she turns to face him more, "Please, tell me something I don't already know, Jethro."

He stayed quiet honestly he couldn't think of anything.

After a moment, she asks again, "What do you want?"

Jethro looked down for a long while,"I don't know if we're ready for this yet and I don't know if I can handle it all."

Gently, "You think we should terminate?"

[ncis_ljgibbs]

"I don't know." Part of him did think so but the other part knew that with their ages this could be their last chance. Jaime almost seemed like a fluke and now this one.
