Music Appreciation 101

Why don't you all love Alkaline Trio as much as I do? If you did, I would not be getting distracted from useful things by the need to pimp them to you RIGHT THIS MINUTE BECAUSE THEY ARE AWESOME.

It's possible that AK3 are not the only band causing me this problem.

(Also, malnpudl and slidellra are going on a roadtrip to Canada, and I am insanely jealous of them

Possibly because I have never heard of them? ;-)

And I am insanely jealous with you. But--if the HDRC ever releases the freakin' album and tours, you and I are THERE, RIGHT?

Possibly because I have never heard of them?

See, this is not helping my resolution not to pimp them to everyone.

Also, I should fix that. Maybe even on Friday, which I have designated as music pimping day.

But--if the HDRC ever releases the freakin' album and tours, you and I are THERE, RIGHT?

WE SO ARE.

Oh no! That's just not right.

It never really occurred to me that people wouldn't have heard of them at all.

I KIND OF ADORE THEM. LIKE, LOTS.

i heard jaked on green beers on my atticus: dragging the lake I album years ago and went a little apeshit over them. i have yet to see them, though. *sigh* my life, so hard.

Your life IS hard. You need to see them live at least once. It's awesome.

Maybe they'll do Warped again this year?

I had not heard any Alkaline Trio really before getting into bandom, but they are definitely one of the discoveries I have been pleased to make.

This is what I do. I get into a band or bands and I listen to them talk about the bands they like or were influenced by and so I go and listen to those bands and repeat. It makes for a very... odd and eclectic musical knowledge. Which actually, is why I LOVE your various punk history posts and accompanying playlists, because punk has always been a genre I adored, but my knowledge there is as haphazard as always and I love, love, love being introduced to new-to-me bands and hearing all the interconnectednesses of a genre.

*g* I'm glad those posts work for people, I really am.

It's a good way to find stuff. But who has AK3 as a reference? Did I miss something? I know FOB has mentioned the Get Up Kids (another of my long-time favorite bands), but beyond being in Chicago I hadn't known they were a bandom influnce.

(I'm working on the Chicago/hardcore post, which is what brought this all up. I was going to stick AK3 in anyway, just because of the location, but it was a thinly-veiled effort to pimp them to people rather than an actual connection. It'd be awesome if I could actually say they had been referenced by someone.)

MCR actually toured with them and talk about loving them in a couple different places. I know I've seen at least one interview (and I can't remember if it was print or video) where Frank talks about Alkaline Trio in terms of the weirdness/awesomeness of bands that he's a fan of becoming fans of theirs. And there's this youtube video where Frank and Gerard are talking about Warped and becoming friends with AK3 on tour.

That's fantastic. And I started looking around and found an early interview with FOB that mentions them as well.

I think I may end up making a full post of AK3 stuff, from the demos to Remains. Maybe then people will go out and get the remastered version of Goddamnit when it comes out later this year.

I CAN TOTALLY FIX THAT. I will post things.

Also, did you still want the Cobra Starship stuff? Because somebody just posted links here:

To a bunch of bandom stuff, including the CS albums. So, you know. If you want them. *g*

They're fantastic, right? Very, very tongue-in-cheek, and bouncy, and just having a lot of fun all around.

I like 'em a lot, but only have eight songs or so, from Crimson and Good Mourning. But I have heard from them! This makes me proud!

\o/ That's a start. And it looks like I might put together a full post to pimp them--so you'll have a chance to hear some of their other stuff and see if you like it.

I'm going to get my entire f-list to have all my favorite music if it kills me. *g*
