Flashback Friday

Apr 26, 2024 12:34

Happy Friday! Every week I check the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 4th week in April, 2012.

#3 Busker Busker “Cherry Blossom Ending”
AKA the “Cherry Blossom Zombie” and “spring carol”, because it is known to re-enter the charts every year. But I don’t know if it was true this year. The cherry blossoms seemed to be late blooming this year. Anyways! This is still the best selling single in Korea. It was the lead single from the band’s debut album. It’s been a while, so let’s check out the MV again.

#2 Sistar “Alone”
This was the title track of the group’s first EP of the same name. The song would peak at the top spot and get wins at every major music show. This song did nothing for me lol. But I do remember the song and dance being EVERYWHERE back then. Let’s check out a live stage from Music Core.

#1 4Minute “Volume Up”
This was the lead single from the group’s EP of the same name. Both the song and EP would peak at the top spot, and the song would win a trio of music show trophies. It was the only Korean promotion for the group this year. I remember this era happening because I loved the styling. I think I liked it? But I remember nothing else lol. Here’s a stage from Music Core.

Honorable Mentions

#4 Nell “The Day Before”
After an almost 4 year hiatus due to military services, the band would get back together for a new album. This was the title track for their full album, “Slip Away”. The album would reach the top spot, while the song would crack into the top three on the charts. It's been a while, so let’s check out the MV again, starring Lee Min Ki and Song Jae Rim.

#6 Shinhwa “Venus”
Like Nell, this was the group’s first comeback in almost 4 years due to military enlistments. It was also the group’s first release under the newly formed Shinhwa Company, their own company they created for group management. It was also their 10th full album, and released to celebrate their 14th anniversary. The group would start an 8 city Asian tour the day after the album’s release. Here’s their comeback stage at Music Core.
