Flashback Friday
Happy Friday! Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back 10 years to the 1st week in April, 2014. 10 YEARS! I remember 4 out of the 5 songs this week. Do you remember all five?
#3 4Minute “Whatcha Doin’ Today”
This was the lead single from the group’s 5th EP, “4Minute World”. I remember this era, but I don’t remember if I liked the song. I also haven’t seen this MV in 10 years holy crap it’s a lot lol. Just random fun. This was their first song to debut at the top spot, and would end up being the group’s last #1 on the charts.
#2 2NE1 “Come Back Home”
This was one of the singles for the group’s 2nd (and final) album, “Crush”. The song would debut at #2 on the charts (right behind the song at #4 this week). The next week it would move to the top spot. This would end up being the group’s last #1 on the Korean charts. It would win a trio of music show trophies and some year end awards. The group would follow up promotions with a tour around Asia.
#1 Lim Chang Jung “Ordinary Song”
The only song this week that I don’t remember. This is one of those old school ballad MVs where people are in random decrepit building, random things on fire, randomly walking around and crying…you remember those kinds of videos. This was the lead single from his EP, “Ordinary Song, Ordinary Melody”.
Honorable Mentions
#4 Girls’ Generation “Mr. Mr.”
This was the lead single of the EP of the same name. I’m struggling to remember if I liked this one too. I remember liking the styling though. It was the group’s only promotions in Korea for 2014, they focused on Japanese activities for the rest of the year. This was also the final EP with Jessica, and the last time SNSD and 2NE1 would be together on the charts. End of an era in many ways.
#5 Orange Caramel “Catallena”
The After School unit was busy this year, and this was the first of a trio of releases. The song was successful. It received a positive reaction and stayed in the top ten for five weeks. Also this was parodied a lot lol. Someone please post the video. You know what I’m talking about. THE video.
