the producers said they wanted "Cha Tae Hyun and Jo In Sung struggle even more in an unfamiliar environment" and the show have more diversity. i don't think it would much a stretch to say that they also wanted a more international audience for the show as well.
i've watched a bunch of shows where they go overseas, and the actors/idols get asked "do you know kpop?" or "do you know bts" questions. i think it's so cringe and rude and am unfortunately expecting a lot of that in this show too.
