Maid cafes are so bizarre to me, I think it only works in Japan because of the whole anime culture.

I'm a weirdo and always fascinated with maid cafes despite never going to one. Not in a sexual way but more of I think the costumes are cute and what's wrong with acting cutesy/aegyo?
Though, as another commentor mentioned, I hope they have a no touching rule or something.

Born in a different life, I would have loved to work at a maid cafe I think. I love cheesy shit and I think it would have been fun. but what do I know....

I think it's one of those things that could have been cute and fun as hell in theory but ends up getting ruined because men sexualise and ruin EVERYTHING for us. The My Little Pony effect. Costumes are fun, acting is fun, cute things are fun, themed spaces are fun, interesting aesthetics are fun, but we can't have anything without men making it a sex/porn thing.

Oh exactly 100%.
maybe if it was like...a female only customer place. but then that would be attacked as being sexist.

I just want everything to be cute in life.

The everything cute project: female separatism meets speakeasy. We're taking our shit underground! Cat shelter by day (because we know how much men apparently hate and will stay away from cat moms now), themed Sailor Moon marathon cinema by night.

Maybe that’s what they’re upset about, it seems like trying to photograph a maid without her consent comes with actual consequences. It sets too high a standard.
