In this series I want to go through artists that are gone, but not forgotten. I will go from debut till disbandment or [indefinite] hiatus, remembering the time we had together and look back on their highs and lows.
I was really interested in Sonamoo at debut but quickly fell off. I think various things about their debut put me off - the korean reaction to their name (which means pine tree iirc?), their poll to name one member just using a very race-model-esque silhouette photo and no other info, (this was d.ana iirc), how they seemed to debut with a bap reject that wasn't that great, how ts couldn't seem to figure out a way to market them simultaneously as bap's hip hop sister group and also as secret's glamorous/cutesey sister group.
That said despite my actual keeping up with them I'm always mad at a waste of good talent, and the only solace I have in the end of Sonamoo was that it was the truest signal of TS's forthcoming end.
op thank you so much for this post, i missed them! thanks so much for your work!
i think with a company like ts, becoming a long-standing group was already doomed from the start 😔 i never really got into their music but not relistening to deja vu i wouldn't say i love it but the style feels really interesting and fresh when compared to what we're hearing from current gen kpop
(strange btw that you can only access lj through a vpn? that's annoying!)
i was/am obsessed with sonamoo, truly ults so thank you op! 💕
d.ana was my favourite from early days but i grew to really love sumin too. but i loved all the girls lmao. they were truly underrated and capable of doing a lot more if they'd ever found proper fame. it's crazy how much i loved them when looking back their discography is quite small lol but it's still in constant rotation. ts may be one of the worst kpop companies (a high bar to begin with) when it comes to treatment of their idols but they always gave their groups great songs.
i like u too much, i think i love u and i were my favourite titles and the i listen to the i like u too much ep is perfection.
Yesssss "I Like U Too Much" album supremacy!!! I've definitely played that one the most of all. I also have very fond memories of looping that album while driving around to places to catch Pokemon on Pokemon Go lol
I usually can remember at least one song or member by each nugu group, but when I saw sonamoo in the title nothing came to mind. Really unfortunate how TS managed to royally fuck up everything they touched, all their artists deserved better.
