this case sounds absolutely awful, what a cruel way to die. but also i need people to stop calling everything gaslighting. seems like a new buzzword in sk too.

I definitely agree that gaslighting is way overused and especially is losing a lot of meaning in Korea (unfortunately that happens with loanwords) but it applies more here. She had her husband completely psychologically dependent on her, this article doesn’t really do justice to how bizarre their relationship and her general behavior was

ItVery sorry for the family and friends for their lost. I hope the culprits are caught and judged, even if just for failing to act. Not just the two who allegedly planned to benefit from the death - but also the "friends" that pushed someone who didn't know how to swim, to go into the water... it's absolutely awful.

I know this is sort of off topic but

“Yoon, despite working as a biomolecular engineer at a major company”

“Yoon was swimming in debt, despite a salary of 64 million won ($50,600) a year, more than double the average wage.”

Holy hell. I knew wages weren’t as high as the US over there but an engineer making only $51k a year?? And that’s more than double the average wage?? What the fuck.

and it's not like Korea is THAT much cheaper than the US/Canada by comparison, either. I was paying 800k (a little over 600 USD) a month in Seoul for 1 room, 1 bath (just one room with a bed, desk, kitchenette where the bathroom was essentially a shower stall) in 2015, and currently split 1200 USD rent with my partner in Canada for 2 bed 2 bath + living room/kitchen/balcony + all the fixings (parking stall, storage room, etc.)

I remember when I first moved there in 2010 you could get a meal for 3000-4000 KRW, but when I was leaving around 2017 you'd be hard pressed to find much for less than 8-12k D: a few friends of mine are leaving because it's gotten so expensive, with wages not increasing to match (this is a problem everywhere tbf)

this is freaking crazy! i had actual chills reading the story. can’t imagine how scared he must’ve felt in that moment and the years leading up to his murder. like, the man was willing to sell his organs while lee was doing lord knows what. awful!
