It's literally ALWAYS only Boys Love bc it's written by and for straight cis women urgh ¬_¬

What do we have to do to get some stories written by and for actual LGBT people that don't just stop at boys love. I'm sick of it.

girls really have a fetishism for gay boy stories.

I always wonder how this affects rl attitudes, I've seen clips where Korean Youtubers are more open but this is also an audience that wants worldwide viewership. I also think about the SPN fanfic writers who were homophobic and said it was fine in fiction not irl when called out on their fetishism

Omfg I wanna strangle people when they say they're OK with it in fiction but not real life. The number of people especially fans if Japanese bl and Thai bl I've seen say that makes me want to murder them.

as those above have said, the popularity sadly comes from girls mainly. I tried mainly watching but find it hard to enjoy many of it, as many of the relationship archetypes hinge on fetishism and male-female relationship tropes. so it's a nope from me. and I don't think it really brings attention/acceptance because in the end it's a niche area and a platform for the actors to make it bigger (a la Thai BLs now)

Yeah I wrote this comment recently in another post. Usually when I say smth like this ppl are like 'it's gotten way better wrt tropes and stuff' but that's lit the bare minimum, they shouldn't have even existed in the first place ( ... )

yes I saw your comment in one of the drama discussion post previously and thought about it. I think one of my biggest issue is that while there may be some acceptance for non-hetero relationships, it isn't a movement forward with this genre.

an example of a huge disappointment/disservice is this Chinese BL called Addicted. it was huge and nice to see a drama in a language I can understand, but after watching the drama and reading the original novel/fanfiction, it reeks so much of fetishising and problematic nature of relationships.

I'm not sure if a girls' love story/drama would start off well, because I fear that it may be written by males who fetishise lesbian relationships, and the target market might be more fervent and perverse as compared to the BL (mainly) fangirls.

I recommend 'Bad Buddy series' on Youtube, it's cliche but at the same time making statement against some 'gay' unhealthy tropes, also the actors actually can act (unlike 2gether that got so popular just because the leads are hot, despite their inability to channel any emotion properly)

Hot diggity dang did I hate 2gether. I hate that you can't even look at popularity or even recommendations, because often it's still shit.
However! Bad buddy was indeed fun cliche romp that avoided the more 'ugh' bl tropes ('wifey' blegh). Also: ladies!! even though together they felt like an afterthought.

I enjoyed watching Bad Buddy. Ohm and Nanon are great actors. 2gether...yeah I admit to watching this because Bright and Win are gorgeous LOL There are some nice BLs out there so I hope people don't just watch because they see gorgeous guys playing the role.
