In this series I want to go through artists that are gone, but not forgotten. I will go from debut till disbandment or [indefinite] hiatus, remembering the time we had together and look back on their highs and lows.
God, I totally forgot about Sugar Free. Such a bop!! And I still bop to Jeon Won Diary nowadays too. It’s a shame the subunit never released anything else after that. I wonder whatever happened to Dani?
I’ll never get over how fucked over they were by the bullying controversy when it was Hwayoung all along. Thank god their staff came out to defend the girls but I wonder why they didn’t come out earlier? I really wonder where they would be (or could’ve gone) as a group as they were really climbing the ladder before the scandal.
it was rumoured that Hwayoung's dad is in the industry and she got into T-ara through connections. and that's one of the reasons why MBK did not bother to refute the accusations
i feel like i should not be first comment because i did not follow t-ara closely at all, although i have always appreciated their bops so much, bo beep, roly poly, sexy love, sugar free.. all classics!
your write up for the group is amazing op. i did not know hyomin didn't want to do 'nice body' but was forced by the company. the way the group was treated by their company and the public is terrible. some members must have still have scars from it
i wasn't into t-ara that much but they have a lot of bops i still listen to up to now. tbh i thought some of the bullying evidence were real coz i don't really know the members but some were just funny and obvious false. i wish the staffs came out with the truth earlier. my fave songs are crycry, crycry ballad, like the first time, sexy love
I followed them since "Go Crazy Because of You" and it took me reading your post OP to realise they went 5 years without a music show win?! No wonder the members had a complete breakdown when they won on The Show :(
I hate how the scandal hindered all their opportunities, including acting for Jiyeon and Eunjung. It sucks how MBK gave them such a solid discography but were completely disastrous management wise, they should have never added extra members...but you can't change the past :/
Their first album was the first (hehe) KPop album that I loved all the way through, I think most of it still holds up to this day.
The 5 years without a win really hit me hard because I knew it had been a while since they won anything, but I hadn't realized that it had been THAT long. That bullying scandal should have been cleared up right away, not left to fester and drag the girls' reputations through the mud - not only that, but the psychological damage they faced from all the backlash is heartbreaking. They were done so dirty by their company and I will never forget it. For a group that was almost top tier status, they should have gone out with a bang not a blip.
