In this series I want to go through groups that are gone, but not forgotten. I will go from debut till disbandment or [indefinite] hiatus, remembering the time we had together and look back on their highs and lows.
The Wonder Girls was the first group I listened to and followed, thanks to my little sister who stans them. They made the JYP sound work TO THIS DAY!!!! They still top tier. The DJ is Mine and Like Money were GOOD. I DON'T WANT TO HEAR NOTHING ELSE.
I really do think Lim was treading water a lil bit when she was first popped in but between the haitus and reboot she fully grew into herself and it showed
I feel like WG is really forgotten by the international fandoms when it comes to NGGs T___T They were one of my first true kpop groups (not counting BoA) and back then the kpop community was so small! The days when the Wonder Girls Nobody Mnet performance being the highest viewed kpop video are long over but I hope their legacy lives on. They seem to be happy with their lives so I really couldn't ask for more. I am sad though that they disbanded after dropping such good jams after rebooting.
I was WAY TOO LATE to the Wonder Girls party - only discovering them after disbandment. However, I Feel You and Why So Lonely are some of the best Kpop songs of all time. I love their solo activities. I agree with the comment above - judging by Yeeun’s music now, she was clearly never into the idol life. Yubin!! I’m excited for her future - Yaya is great fun and totally up my street.
Sunmi. What can I say. My favourite solo artist was birthed from Wonder Girls - a true queen. And she continues to be.
oh my i remember wonder girls and snsd were the first kpop group i listened to and i was still in 5th grade. my immature ass "hated" wonder girls back then because my friend likes snsd and she said that wonder girls is snsd's main rival. oh my god that was so stupid of me. but then i got curious about them so i look them up and i was like "hey they're not as bad as i thought" and i end up stanning yeeun. i hid my admiration for wonder girls until i reached high school. it turns out my friend actually likes wonder girls lol.
anywayyyyyyyyyy, i love these girls! too bad they don't share the same hype with their fellow 2nd gen sisters like snsd and 2ne1 when they're literally (i bet) the first girl group that everyone heard of! 'nobody' is that queen!
their title tracks are always bops from so hot -> why so lonely. i loved them even more when they became a band. that was the first time i listened to their whole album. i feel u is still on my playlist and be my baby. love love love love these girls!
One of my earliest memories as a kpop fan is being HELLA excited for that Wonder Girls movie. DJ is mine is STILL such a bop idc.
Nobody is SO iconic. Even my friends that have no interest in kpop know the song. They just have a bunch of songs that will go down in kpop history as being iconic. I don't think any of the songs that come out these days despite having hundreds and millions of views will have that sort of longevity in the future.
Also I'm hella dumb because I didn't know Sunmi was at one point a part of the group until a couple of years back and I was shook.
Their last two comebacks were SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good. I had a girl crush on Yeeun those eras. I suppose it's nice to leave on a high note. I have no doubt that if they ever wanted to they could come back together and do a single.
