My explanation might not be completely accurate but it's some missile defense system the US wants SK to have to protect against NK. But the range on these cover some major cities in China and China is very unhappy about it. And has been protesting by banning all k ent amongst other things.

^^^^. pretty much and, in regards to chinese idols in korea: it's been putting a lot of them in an awkward position. like not as much for idols who're not trying to gain individual relevancy there (like cheng xiao or jieqiong, as mentioned a few posts down) but for idols like lay or victoria. i've seen the both of them get so much shit, like: k-fans blaming victoria for f(x)'s lack of a comeback and some c-fans who criticize her whenever she goes off to do an activity with the group as if she needs to choose between her career in china and career in korea, rather than having both. add on the fact that a lot of netizens have turned on victoria after she expressed her opinion on the south china sea ruling last year and, yeah. i understand why she'd be sticking in china right now - and why sm would be fine with her doing so. she's making a ton of $$$$ for herself on top of making money for sm when they can't really send anyone else there atm (and it's prob the same with lay).

To add to what others said before me: because of THAAD K-Pop and Korean stars are seen in a negative way in China, China stopped supporting Lotte stores, it's difficult for Korean groups to hold concerts in China, actors and actresses lost their CF deals, can't play main roles in Chinese dramas like they used to. Just being a Chinese artist who's a part of a Korean group is 'bad'

I wonder why SM is hiding their chinese artist, while Cheng Xiao and Pinky still can promote properly?

i just talked about this to a lay-fan yesterday:

its different because both victoria and lay are actively working on their career in china. meanwhile cheng xiao and pinky only promote in korea/have no plans to take over china.

lay and victoria both have their own studios and frequent schedules in china, they basically only work there rn, which i don't think cheng xiao, or the other chinese wjsn members, and pinky do (at all or on a similar level). similarly nct's winwin, who doesn't have an active career in china, doesn't go through the same challenges either. at least that's my guess
i don't know how jackson's been managing to do both
