On a December day where winter has returned, we met VIXX again after 7 months. Two seasons have changed during the time VIXX has released four albums, hyde, Jekyll, Girls, Why?, and their 1st full album ‘Voodoo Doll’, and not long ago even finished up a world tour. It’s an obvious obligation for idols to run without rest towards their dreams and goals, but we were curious whether those the responsibility to fulfill those dreams or goals ever caused them to have heavier burdens, truthfully we felt sympathy for them. However, just 4 days after the Ceci photoshoot, VIXX won a trophy on a music program for the first time after debuting. Three members were sobbing while the other three laughed happily. Although each member’s reaction was different, their tears replaced the sweat and hard work during that time, the feelings of that shining moment was the same for everyone. Vampires, Jekyll & Hyde, and even voodoo dolls, what else is VIXX capable of in the future. This question is not a suspicion of their potential, but a complete anticipation.

Voodoo Doll

Ceci: Truthfully, I watched the music video and was shocked. It seems it was the same for VIXX.

Hongbin: I’m the type that can watch movies containing cruelty really well, but when I watched it for the first time I had to close my eyes a few times. I worried whether it will turn out well.
(C: But Hongbin’s acting made a huge impression.)
Although every album has a concrete and different concept, the expressions and gestures could be the same, so I worried a lot about how to change. For my hairstyle, I voiced my opinion about wanting to have one eye covered by my fringe since before, but now that I can do it I’m really proud.

C: VIXX has continuously challenged strong and exciting concepts. It could have gone down the unpopular road.

N: But everything was clothes that fit VIXX very well. Our ultimate goal is to become the trend. I think even if it was unpopular, it’s VIXX’s problem to persuade the public until we can receive love for good songs and performances.
Leo: Rather than being popular as our goal, we want to create performances that’s like an interesting drama, where watching it once makes you keep thinking about and wanting to watch it again.

C: The choreography this time is also amazingly cool. Did N participate in the choregraphy this time too?

N: I always have opinions regarding the choreography.
(C: Who gets the choreography wrong the most?)
Ken! His details are a little different. (laughs) Recently Leo is also emerging as a strong one.

C: But Ken is the member whose appearance on and off stage is the most different. Doesn’t this mean that he absorbs the concept the best?

Ken: My aegyo came from the love I received from my mom and older brothers growing up as the youngest. The charisma on stage was born out of practice and even more practice. For ‘Voodoo Doll’ I’m in charge of the important introduction part of the choreography, although I’m not extremely satisfied, but maybe just a little? (laughs)

C: The album contains Ravi’s self-composed ‘Secret Night’ so the album is a bit more meaningful.

Ravi: During this time, I’ve been releasing songs for fans to listen to, but this was the first time I got to release it officially for download.
(C: There’s a rumor that the lyrics are 19+ only.)
The truth is that ‘Secret Night’ was made about 3 months ago. At that time it was just a guide version and I didn’t make it with any lyrics in mind. At first I wanted to write it like a fantasy, I thought it’d be good to have a theme that VIXX’s past albums did not have, and the song was born out of that. It was the result of writing while in the car and reduced sleep. Actually I have refuted to fans that it’s not erotic, I don’t think it’s the most erotic out of VIXX’s history. (laughs)

C: Like the lyrics in ‘Voodoo Doll’, if you had a doll that could grant wishes, what would you wish for?

N: For our fans, family, and for VIXX members to always be happy.
Leo: I’d like to go back to my childhood for a day, as the maknae and receiving love from my parents and older sisters.
Ken: For the fans’ good health, happiness, and for fans’ infinite love for VIXX!
Ravi: For my people to always be healthy and happy.
Hongbin: For my family to always be happy and healthy.
Hyuk: For VIXX, and VIXX’s hyuk, to receive recognition from the public, and receive love.

Visit

C: Starting from Malaysia, then to Europe, USA, and back to Seoul to finish off the long world tour. Were there any memorable episodes?

Leo: While we were in LA, I celebrated my birthday. I didn’t have any specific place I wanted to go, but I thought if I stayed at the hotel by myself on my birthday my mom would feel hurt, so I went to Beverly Hills Center with N. While we were shopping, we concidentally met Trey Songz, who I really like. I received a big birthday present that was so unbelievable. I was also thankful for the birthday wishes from fans of various countries.
Ken: When we were filming for our pre-release song ‘Only U’ in Stockholm, Sweden! It was raining and the wind was blowing really hard, so we were filming while shaking, but even so it came out well.
Hongbin: I took a lot of pictures in Italy. I saw an artist on the street playing guitar while singing, and I fell in love with the charms of acoustics again. Ah, I should have learned how to play instruments when I was younger!

Venue

C: The finale to the world tour was in Seoul. The heat of 8,000 fans must have been incredible. What meaning does the showcase at the Olympic Gymnastics Stadium have to VIXX.

N: VIXX’s growth, where we ran honestly without looking back and without slacking.
Leo: An energy that picks up our tired bodies and lets us run. Thanks to that, everything became okay.
Ken: It was something that would have been absolutely impossible if it weren’t for our fans. It gave off even more light for the start of ‘Voodoo Doll’.
Ravi: A place where we can repay our fans for the love we received while promoting until now. But on the contrary, we received even more love and were more touched.
Hongbin: It was a place where we can meet all our fans at once, and it was also a nerve-wrecking practice test for ‘Voodoo Doll’s first reveal.
Hyuk: A time where you can see VIXX’s new potential after the end of the long Global Showcase “The Milky Way”.

Victim

C: As the group’s representative, it’s not just radio, vairety programs, and MC-ing, but Leader N has a lot more burdens that you think. Do you ever feel that the leader’s sacrifice is unfair?

N: Never. But someday Spring will come. (laughs) I’ve been asked a lot whether it’s tiring since my personal schedules have increased. It’s true that my thoughts have increased, but I’m the type to think to myself anyway. Simply, it’s a time to think about how to be more careful with what I say or my actions. It’s an obvious thing for N to do more work for the group’s sake. Because I’m VIXX’s leader.

C: ‘Voodoo Doll’ is about becoming a voodoo doll and sacrificing yourself for the woman you love. When you’re in a relationship, are you the type to give generously, or the type to lead?

N, Hongbin: The type to generously lead. (laughs)
Leo: Generously give.
Ken: Both? Because I want to lead, as well as give generously!
Ravi: I pour everything in. I’m the style to actively express affection.
Hyuk: I’m still young, but I would like to give everything I can.

Versus

C: Let’s go this way with questions regarding relationships. If you had to pick between someone you love or someone who loves you..?

N: Both. I’ve liked someone before and I’ve also liked someone who liked me before.
Leo, Hyuk: The person I love.
Ravi: I like having the both of us like each other. Whatever it is, I don’t like one-sided things. My personality is that I like what I like, and hate what I hate, I also don’t play push-and-pull games.
Hongbin: Isn’t it better to like each other?

C: Next is love vs. friedship.

N: Friendship. I treasure my friends a lot right now. Actually I still don’t know what the difference is between love and friendship. Because friendship can also change to love.
Ken: Love. In life, if there’s a moment where you have to give up love, friendship will also disappear.
Ravi: Right now I don’t love anyone so I’d choose friendship, but if someone I love appears, I think I’d choose love.

Vocal

C: VIXX has two main vocals. There must be a lot of moments where you rely on each other.

Leo: During the end of and after promotions, I had to rest because of a leg injury, and during that time Ken had to sing all of my parts too. It must have been burdensome, so I was thankful. If the situation was reversed, I think I would have had a hard time.
Ken: Our voices have different colors so it’s fun to listen to. If my voice is husky, Leo hyung’s is sharp and clear. We’re always working hard to complement each other to create a good harmony.

C: Pick a song that you would use to serenade with VIXX’s great voices.

N: Mariah Carey’s ‘Endless Love (with Luther Vandross)’.
Leo: A self-composed song.
Ken: VIXX’s ‘Thank You for Being Born’.
Ravi: I’m going to make a song that’s only for that person!
Hongbin: Park Hyoshin’s ‘I Want to Love’.
Hyuk: I still don’t know. In the future, if a person I love appears, I’ll pick a song that matches that person.

Vow

C: Now promise something for forever to the person you’ll love in the future.

N: I’ll always make you happy even while doing trivial, everyday things.
Leo: I’ll never take anything for granted, whatever it is.
Ken: I’ll become a good artist that receives love from a lot of people and make you happy.
Ravi: I’ll love you more than anyone else.
Hongbin: I’ll always try to become a better man, so stay with me forever.
Hyuk: Let’s believe each other and live happily ever after!

Vision

C: Pick a member who would become a good dad and good husband.

N: Ravi for both. His love for his children and wife seems like it’d be impressive.
Leo: Me, it’s my life goal to have a harmonious family.
Ken: Ken for both! Because I know myself the best, I believe myself more than anyone else. (laughs)
Ravi: Both N hyung. Because he is good to everyone.
Hongbin: Ravi, who loves his family the most, and Hongbin. Because my dream is to become a good husband.
Hyuk: Leo hyung who likes babies, and me.

Viva la Vida

C: ‘Viva la vida’ means ‘live your life’, and one of the brightest moments in life is life as a student. What were your school days like?

Leo: Soccer was my entire life back then. When I had to give up soccer because of an injury, I needed singing, and it became a strength.
Ken: Rather than my looks, I was popular for my singing. (laughs) I was the kind to always have friends around me. Even those who fought, I was close to the both of them.
Ravi: Starting from elementary school, I played soccer for 6 years. If Leo hyung was a professional player, I’d be an amature player as school representative. The ten friends I’ve made have been my friends for over 10 years. I match with those friends well, and during my 3rd year of middle school I fell into music and started writing lyrics.
Hongbin: I don’t like to be constrained, so I didn’t know I would become an idol. I originally dreamed to be a vet.
(C: It seems like you would have been really popular at school).
I wasnt. I was almost always in the classroom. I didn’t go the the cafeteria, and when class was over I just played basketball.
Hyuk: I was a still a student not too long ago. (laughs) Now that I’m finally a university student, I’m anticipating the lectures.

C: What do you value most in living life?

N, Leo: Happiness.
Ken: Consideration for others.
Ravi: Make my own judgements for what I want to do, and to spend happy moments together with my loved ones.
Hongbin, Hyuk: Enjoying the moment.

C: What are three things you can’t live without? Or an item that is your most favorite?

N: Notebook, accessory.
Leo: iPod, scarf, mask.
Ravi: My SIM-cardless iPhone that has secret data on it, leggings, the Jordon shoes that I love
Hongbin: Affection, a direction point, Haet-nim (Park Hyoshin).
Hyuk: The people who believe and support me, MP3, food.

C: I heard that Hongbin’s love for Haet-nim is incredible. So you must understand the heart of a fan.

Hongbin: That’s right. Honestly, I couldn’t understand when fans told me they almost cried when they saw the comeback video or picture, but when I saw pictures from I came to understand those emotions perfectly.

C: Sorry to Hyuk that loves food, but don’t idols have to diet?

Hyuk: I’m not one of the members who diet. Of course I do when I have to, but I’m the type to relieve stress when I eat delicious things, so food is very precious to me.
(C: Did you grow taller? It feels like you got manlier.)
It’s also thanks to my hairstyle that I let down for the first time since debut. Of course everything I ate seems to have gone to my height too. (laughs)

Variation

C: A change for yourself for the future?

N: To break a mold that holds me back.
Leo: To know how to look at my surroundings a little more.
Ken: Be active whether it’s singing, acting, CFs, and many other things!
Ravi: I want to work on more music. Of course being satisfied is the basic option!
Hongbin: Acting challenge.
Hyuk: Take off to become a multi-tainer like Lee Seunggi sunbae-nim.

Variety

C: Is there a variety program you’d like to participate in?

N: ‘Healing Camp’. I want to talk about Cha Hakyeon’s stories as much as I want.
Ken: There’s so many that I can’t just pick one, hing. If I must pick, ‘Infinity Challenge’. I’d be active as a 7D character!
Ravi: ‘We Got Married’. I think I could be happy. Haha
Hyuk: ‘Running Man’, whatever it is I think I could be quick and nimble. Because I’m still young!

VIXX

C: Do you have anything to say to yourself?

N: You hung on well, you led well.
Leo: It will turn out well, everything.
Ken: It was hard but you held on well, let’s become a better man.
Ravi: I hope you’ll always make the right decisions while living passionately.
Hongbin: Let’s reach our goals calmly and orderly.
Hyuk: Enjoy every moment!

C: A message to fans for 2014.

N: My Starlights, VIXX will make you happy.
Leo: We’ll return the love we received this year.
Ken: Be happy with VIXXjju for a 100 years, 1,000 years! I love you.
Ravi: The Starlights whom I’m proud of, I’ll repay you with good music and performances.
Hongbin: Please anticipate VIXX who will become better in the new year.
Hyuk: We’ll become a VIXX that develops every year. Happy New Year! Bows.
