ANOTHER ABDUCTION! (Issue #1, Chapter III)

Apr 12, 2004 08:41

The Outcasts, somewhat stymied by the seeming complexity of circumstance facing them in the kidnapping of Dr. Brian Obuchi, find themselves clustered around the handful of computer terminals in the Conductor's north side manse. As the Junkheap rattles around noisily outside, rooting through the dumpster for any pieces of scrap metal that might ( Read more... )

"Crap! Someone shot me! Who shoots superheroes in this day and age?! I'd better stop her, and fast!"

With these frantic thoughts, Elasto flattens himself out on the ground, spreading himself across the parking lot. Then, undulating and slithering as only an elastic egghead can do, Elasto moves towards the point where the shots came from.

The pliable paladin moves in a zig-zag pattern extending parts of himself into whicker-like tendrils, both to increase his search area and reduce the risk of getting shot again. "Hopefully my night vision clears up soon," he thinks to himself, his eyes swivelling like twin periscopes in the blackness...

Spreading across the pitch-black parking lot like a fleshy pool, Elasto forms exploratory tendrils to try and find his mystery assailant. Hearing (but not seeing) a few more shots, his slithering arm creeps up around a rather well-turned out female leg, which kicks and flails wildly to escape the flexible prison he begins to form around her. Wrapping himself around her like a huge rubber-band ball, he flexes and squeezes his malleable musculature until there's a pop and spit of electricity -- and the lights in the parking lot spring back to life ( ... )

"Maybe I should have brought Junkheap with me," Elasto thinks ruefully.

"We both know you won't kill Miss Miyazawa! If you didn't need her alive, you wouldn't have snatched her in the first place!" shouts the flexible firebrand. "Besides, the cops will be here in seconds! There's no way out! You'd better surrender now, make it easy on yourself!"

Keeping himself wrapped tightly around his captive, Elasto standsand begins to move towards the kidnappers.

"Let the girl go, and maybe you can make it out of here in one piece!"

Elasto is, at this point, at least attempting to do three things-- get close enough to the van to interdict the goons pistol, apply a sleeper hold to the shooter so that if he does have to release her, she won't start shooting at him again, and get within stretching distance of the van itself so that, if the kidnappers do make a break for it, he can grab ahold of it and follow them. Hopefully he is being subtle about the last two...

As Elasto attempts to put his plan into action and the gun-toting goon considers his words, another thug leans in from the side and whispers in the gunman's ear. In a split-second, the door to the van slides shut and it tears wildly from the lot, lurching from side to side. Elasto lunges for the rear bumper, but it's too far too fast, and he can't grab hold without losing his captive. It speeds off into the Omnipolis night, just as the squad cars race onto the scene.

Even above the chaos and noise of the escaping van, Elasto's ears are filled with the shriek of his prisoner, directed at the departing getaway vehicle:

"YOU BASTARDS! I'LL KILL YOU FOR THIS!"

Just so you know, I've always visualized Elasto's stretching-based invulnerablity to look something like poking or smacking a sheet of rubber. Thus, if you sock him in the jaw, his jaw will stretch along the same vector as the punch, and then snap back into place. Bullets would make long Elastotunnels, not unlike sticking your finger in to the side of an inflated party balloon. In terms of game mechanics, the resutls shouldn't change, but Elasto getting smacked around should be a pretty weird sight, IMO

Yeah, that's the way I envisioned it at first. He only got hit because he was caught by surprise, and really didn't take any more damage than a light scrape.

Cool. I was a little distracted by the use of "liquify," which is disturbing in a completely different way...
