I love the smell of the city. I forget sometimes, being out in Stony Brook, how different everything is; I get used to sameness. But then I get off the train in Brooklyn, I breathe, And I remember. Hair oil and piss and bubble gum in the subway, Chinese food, incense on the street. Every neighborhood its own smell. What happens on those borders? Do ( Read more... )

Ah I am sorry to hear that the entry made you miss it, I think. Did you leave for work, or school, with plans to come back? Or a more permanent relocation? I have terrible wanderlust and always find myself wanting to be somewhere else, but I always end up back here.

The meeting didn't go so well, no, but thank you all the same. It's just as well, I suppose, because a few months after my interview the Board of Education put a hiring freeze on new teachers, so even if it had gone well, it would still have gone poorly, know what I mean?

And yes, unfortunately education is the first area that gets cut.
